Northport Funeral & Cremation Service family extends our warmest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the family of Mr. David J. Forgac.
Services will be held in the Chapel of Northport Funeral & Cremation on Sat March 2nd at 4:30 p.m., for David Joseph Forgac who passed away suddenly Feb 22, 2019, at UAB Hospital. Dave was born May 2nd, 1953 in Youngstown, Oh., a son of Joseph John and Ann Marie Missik Forgac who proceeded him in death.
Dave can be best described as an inquisitive, cheerful family man with a passion for all things mechanical and a calling to the sky. As a young man he began in aviation by obtaining his helicopter pilots license and then added fixed wing continuing with even more ratings over the years including instructor. In 2018, he was celebrated by the Northport News for his 200th Young Eagle Flight where he volunteered his time to give a free flight lesson to children interested in aviation.
Dave, was also a very talented mechanic. He was known to his family as the guy who could “fix anything but a broken heart” a truism that resounded in those who love him. He said this often throughout the various panicked calls from his children and continued on over the years with his grandchildren. He would take the time to not only fix the problem but, make it better than it was and in doing so, teach as he completed the repair. Dave worked to obtain his FAA Aircraft Mechanic License and added the Inspection Authorization Certification to his list of accomplishments.
As an entrepreneur, Dave had several successful businesses. Beginning in construction and helping establish a Co-Op Flight School in Youngstown, Oh., he finally found the perfect business that resonated with him in Alabama completing annual aircraft inspections. His reputation as a fair, honest and talented mechanic continued to grow. He helped many in the aviation community and would not hesitate to take calls or come to the rescue when unexpected things would break on airplanes.
Dave was always teaching. As a young man, he would have his two daughters helping him fix this or that in the garage or the house. He would constantly be asking questions to make them think about and pay attention to their situational awareness. In his older years, he maintained this same philosophy with his grandchildren often taking them to the airport and for flights as his “co-pilots”. Dave would teach indiscriminately and without judgment, young or old, all would be scolded by him for safety infractions or be given a brief lesson on how stuff works.
Above everything, Dave was a family man. He loved spending time with his wife Jaci whether it was working on home projects, relaxing in the pool or traveling to visit family together, the two enjoyed each others company and Dave always had some funny one liner to make her laugh. He also loved having time with his children and grandchildren and his lifelong best friend Andy whom he would enjoy a breakfast with most Saturday mornings. He will be missed so very much by all leaving a void in their lives and that of the Aviation Community.
Dave will be remembered fondly by those he is survived by: his wife Jacquelyn A. Forgac of Northport, AL; his Aunt Anna Marie Chulik of Naples, FL; daughters and their significant others, Tammy J. (Michael P.) Marcis of Austintown, OH, Mandy J. Forgac (Bryan M. Pribula) of Ladson, SC; his step children Martin W. (Kara) Murphy of Tuscaloosa, AL, Amber M Murphy (Tyler Shelton) of Tuscaloosa, AL; his grandchildren, Michael D. Marcis, Summer A. Marcis, Brayden M. Legates, Chrystian T. Shelton, Magnolia E.
